Medicine of Northern Peru
The
Medicine of the North Journey takes you into the realm of
the San Pedro Shamans of Peru.
Medicinal Plants and Healing
Journey
with us to explore the land and shamanic cosmology of Northern
Peru, the old central Andean healing region.
The
traditional use of medicinal plants in this region dates as
far back as the Moche period (AC 100Ð800). Plant discoveries,
both then and now, are used to treat physical or magical ailments.
We travel with three well-known curanderas and learn the secrets
of traditional medicine of the north, including three optional
Huachuma (San Pedro) mesa ceremonies.
We'll
accompany our curanderas on harvesting trips for healing plants
and herbs, and be available for personal healing ceremonies.
Our journey includes baños de florecimiento (cleansing
flower baths), and other healing rituals. We visit the Huaca
of the Sun and the Huaca of the Moon near Huanchaco, spend
time at Chan Chan and Trujillo, well known for both their
ruins and the curanderas that have come from there.
Our
trip includes a visit to Sican, the archeological site, as
well as a trip to La Laguna Negra, a famous healing lake in
northern Peru. We'll also spend some time at Las Huaringas,
famous for its 40 lakes and spectacular waterfalls!
