Journey to Oaxaca, Mexico...Journey to Oaxaca, Mexico

Conversations with Curanderismo

An Introduction to Traditional Healing Practices
- November 28th to December 9th, 2011

- 7 to 12 participants:
$1600.00 plus airfare

Journey to Oaxaca, Conversations with Curanderismo offers a rich and wonderful leaning experience and an introduction to traditional healing practices in Mexico. Curanderismo come from the Shamanic tradition. When Mexico was conquered and traditional practices were forbidden, these healers, in their great wisdom, incorporated Spanish religious beliefs to survive.

Throughout Mexico, Curandera still serve and care for their communities. Ancient healing practices continue to be part of the fabric of everyday life in the villages we'll visit and knowledge of plant medicine and traditional wisdom still belongs to everyone. This is the most heart centered Shamanic practice I've discovered anywhere.

This journey will be led by Claudia and Yves, two wonderful people who created Tierraventura with the intention of providing sustainable tourism while helping communities secure their income. Along the way they have developed very personal relationships with the the healers that weÕll work with and the villages we'll visit.

After spending three days in Oacaxa and the Sierra Norte, we'll drive to the Pacific coast for three days, take a boat through a beautiful lagoon, and then visit a coffee plantation in the jungle. We are the fist gringoes to be invited to the religious village fiesta of Santa Maria Xadani, a two day festival filled with music, dance, parades, fireworks, sacred ceremonies, and feasting.

We'll learn about the history of Curanderismo, identify traditional plants and make medicinal remedies. We'll meet with healers from different ethnic groups and traditions, cook with village women, and participate in limpias and temazcals. There will be opportunities for the exchange of healing concepts, demonstrations and participation in ritual ceremonies, and a rare glimpse into the culture and lifestyle of some truly gifted healers. We'll hike in the mountains, relax on the beach, and be welcomed everywhere we go.
